Rural services

Neighbouring town Kalajoki provides rural (agricultural) services for entrepreneurs operating in Pyhäjoki.  Kalajoki administers a 6-municipality local government co-management area (KaSi), which includes Alavieska, Merijärvi, Raahe and Siikajoki.

The area is home to about 950 active farms, covering around 61,000 hectares of cultivated land, with the joint rural administration handling around €50 million in agricultural compensation payments annually.

The Negotiation Committee, which consists of two representatives from each municipality, decides on the financial and operational objectives of the local government co-management area.

Key responsibilities of Rural Services:

  • Processing, payment, and advisory services for EU and national agricultural subsidies
  • Assessment and compensation for predator and elk damage
  • Advisory services for pension, loan and grant applications
  • Agricultural land price evaluations, statements, and rural development matters
  • Generational change advice
